On May 28, 2022, Mary Ellen Tidwell, the President and Founder of Crossing Paths Animal Rescue, received a phone call from the local high-kill City Animal Shelter. She was told that a 5-year-old male Shih tzu mix with a ruptured right eye was surrendered that morning and was about to be euthanized. Sadly, other rescues said no when they were asked to save him. Without hesitation, Mary Ellen said that she would pick up and care for the dog. The pup was extremely stressed and in obvious pain. She immediately rushed the dog to Logan Martin Veterinary Clinic for an emergency enucleation or removal of the injured eye.

The dog, who affectionately became known to our volunteers as Mr. Fluffy, was on the critical care floor in isolation for quite some time. His rehabilitation and recovery from surgery took more than 2 months. Despite all that this pup went through, he was a very sweet dog who was especially loved by everyone at rescue. Joyce worked exceptionally hard to find the ideal adopter and was overjoyed when she found a kind and loving family from Maryland who was the perfect fit. Mr. Fluffy and his new family were united on August 6, 2022.
