Who We Are
Who We Are
Established in 2006, Crossing Paths Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Blount County, Alabama. We are dedicated to placing abused, abandoned, and neglected dogs into new forever loving homes.
What We Do
Our volunteers work diligently to find loving forever homes for as many homeless dogs as possible. The dogs we rescue are abandoned and would otherwise have very little hope of survival.
Mary Ellen Tidwell, the Co-Founder and President of Crossing Paths, regularly visits several of many local high-kill facilities where dogs are under a 7-day limit, meaning that they will be euthanized within 7 days of their arrival. She removes as many adoptable dogs as she can accommodate in her own kennels and in foster homes. We have a large network of volunteers in Blount and Jefferson Counties who are willing to give these dogs a safe albeit temporary home.
Volunteers at our satellite location in Newtown/Yardley, Pennsylvania (Bucks County) strive to bring awareness of the availability of these wonderful rescue dogs to potential adopters in PA and neighboring states. They facilitate adoptions in the Northeast where there is a higher demand for adoptable dogs compared with in the South. Once adopted, our dogs are transported every 2-3 weeks to various locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia, and sometimes the van driver makes stops along the way.
We regularly sponsor adoption events at local pet stores in which we bring up ready-to-adopt dogs of various ages, breeds, and sizes. These events give you and your family the opportunity to meet the dogs prior to onsite adoption. Please check our Events page for more information and upcoming events.
Our Success
In 2021, Crossing Paths Animal Rescue successfully adopted out 808 dogs. We transferred more than 300 dogs to Brandywine Valley SPCA and The Humane Society & Shelter Southcoast, where the dogs have higher visibility and more readily attract adopters.
Our volunteers diligently review all adoption applications. We carefully interview applicants and walk them through a seamless adoption process. Crossing Paths Animal Rescue boasts a very high adoption retention rate because of how diligently our adoption coordinators and fosters work to ensure that each dog is well-matched to their adopter.
