On June 3, 2024, a good Samaritan brought Gracie to rescue because she knew Crossing Paths' reputation for taking in, rehabilitating, and preparing for adoption elderly, sick, and/or injured dogs that other rescues may reject. Gracie, already a tripod, was badly neglected and in terrible shape.
Upon arrival at rescue, staff observed the giant infected wound covering half of her back and urgently rushed Gracie to the vet. Her badly matted fur was shaved revealing an enormous hot spot, likely caused by trauma, insect bites, and/or infections.
Gracie's wounds were cleaned and she was treated with antibiotics and pain meds. Further evaluation revealed that her previous amputation surgery was not done properly and a prosthesis will not fit. Gracie has hip dysplasia and requires treatment with joint supplements. Although she is able to walk now, she will likely need rear wheels eventually. We are thankful to a former adopter who donated one to her and it will accompany Gracie to her new forever home.
Gracie was adopted and is thriving in her new home!
